Countdown to Care: Building the AnimalKind Community Vet Clinic
AnimalKind is opening a critically needed community vet clinic in the greater Raleigh area by the end of 2026 to tackle North Carolina’s pet overpopulation and shelter overcrowding crisis. This clinic will provide affordable spay/neuter, preventative care, and essential wellness services for the pets and families who need them most.
To make this community vet clinic a reality, AnimalKind is launching a Countdown to Care campaign, and our goal is to raise $1.5 million by the end of 2026. Thanks to the efforts of two dedicated board members, we’re already off to a strong start with $200,000 pledged. Your support will help us equip the clinic, purchase essential medical tools, and hire highly trained veterinarians and vet techs — everything needed to open our doors and begin serving the community.
Your donation today helps bring compassionate, accessible vet care to all.

Why We Need Your Support
Our pets are an important part of our families. Knowing they are well cared for strengthens our connection and reduces emotional and financial stress for their humans. This is where AnimalKind fills the gap by:
- Providing high-quality, low-cost care with the support of highly trained, licensed veterinarians, vet technicians, and assistants.
- Reducing pet overpopulation through spay/neuter services that prevent shelter overcrowding, unnecessary euthanasia, lower cancer risks, and reduce behavioral issues in these animals.
- Prioritizing prevention to help pets live longer, healthier lives. Preventative care is often far more affordable than emergency treatment — one of the leading reasons families surrender their pets.
Recognizing that what we do today affects tomorrow, our goal is to help the pets and people who love them.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this clinic vital to the community?
North Carolina has the third-highest shelter euthanasia rate in the country. The acute animal overpopulation crisis in our community shows no sign of slowing down. We continue to see, on a near-daily basis, reports of overcrowding at our county shelters. For various reasons, people are surrendering their cats and dogs in increasing numbers. One reason for this is the limited, if any, access to affordable spay/neuter and basic preventative care for their animals.
Where will the clinic and retail store be located?
The new location for ReTails and the AnimalKind Community Veterinary Clinic cannot be announced yet, but we plan to lease a location in the northeast Raleigh area that is easily accessible from major interstates.
What about the ReTails thrift store?
ReTails, the AnimalKind thrift store, will still be fully operational. A staple in the Raleigh community for 20 years, we are very grateful to our customers and volunteers who have kept our doors open. The revenue generated from ReTails will support our low-cost clinic. ReTails is currently located at 2821 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27616.
